ORGANIST
Willibald Guggenmos is one of the most prominent European concert organists. He took up his first position as an organist at the age of ten, and completed his musical education in Augsburg and at the Munich Music College, where he earned three master’s degrees – in piano, conducting and organ. During his career, he was organist of the St. Martin’s Church in Wangen, then of the Munich Cathedral, and from 2004 to 2023, principal organist of the St. Gallen Cathedral in Switzerland. Today, he is the artistic director of the International Organ Festival in Augsburg.
His concert activities include performances on almost every continent – from Notre-Dame in Paris to concert halls in Sydney, Hong Kong, Ottawa and Buenos Aires. Critics have praised him as a musician of “fantastic technique and dazzling musicianship” (New York Times). His rich repertoire includes the complete organ literature of the great masters, and numerous publications and recordings further testify to his exceptional artistic breadth.
